The Body is the Temple – Function of the Spirit – Part 7

We are continuing our study of who we are.  We know we are a 3 part being.  “I am a spirit, I live in a body, and I have a soul, which is my mind, will and emotions.”  The heart functions not as a separate entity, but as a gatekeeper of the soul and spirit.  Today, we will begin by looking closely at the function of the spirit, and its 3 parts; conscience, fellowship and intuition.   We will review the function of the heart (because it is part of the conscience).  The ability for both our spirit and soul to function properly, the heart must be pure; not hardened.

1 Corinthians 3:16:  Do you not know that you are a temple of God and that the Spirit of God dwells in you?   NAS

1 Thessalonians 5:23:  May God himself, the God of peace, sanctify you through and through. May your whole spirit, soul and body be kept blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.  NIV

John 3:6:  That which is born of the flesh is flesh; and that which is born of the (Holy) Spirit is (the human) spirit.  KJ  emphasis added

John 3:6:  Flesh is born of flesh, but (the human) spirit is born of the (Holy) SpiritBerean  emphasis added

The Function of the Heart is to love.  It is the not a separate part of us, but it is the inner gatekeeper of what enters and exits man.  It guides our soul and it guides our conscience perfectly when our heart is right before God.  The heart must function in love with God and mankind.  If not, the heart will be in darkness, and unable to direct our spirit or soul.

1 John 4:16b:  God is love, and the one who abides in love abides in God, and God abides in him NAS

FUNCTION OF THE SPIRIT

The Spirit is the receiving organ.  The spirit is where we contact God, fellowship with God, worship God and receive intuition from God.  Born again believers communicate with God in our spirit.  We hear clearly from our spirit only when our heart is right; meaning our conscience is clear and not dark.  Our heart is where love functions, so we must have a pure and single-minded heart.  Our spirit is what communicates and receives from God guidance and direction when our heart (conscience) is right, pure and clean.

Acts 2: 42-44, 46, 47:    42 And they continued stedfastly in the apostles’ doctrine and fellowship, and in breaking of bread, and in prayers.  43 And fear came upon every soul: and many wonders and signs were done by the apostles. 44 And all that believed were together, and had all things common; 46 And they, continuing daily with one accord in the temple, and breaking bread from house to house, did eat their meat with gladness and singleness of heart, 47 Praising God, and having favour with all the people. And the Lord added to the church daily such as should be saved.  KJ

Romans 8: 16:   16  The Spirit Himself testifies with our spirit that we are God’s children.   Berean

John 4:23, 24:   23 But a time is coming and has now come when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and in truth, for the Father is seeking such as these to worship Him. 24 God is Spirit, and His worshipers must worship Him in spirit and in truth.”   Berean

We fellowship and worship God in our spirit. This means our conscience must be dealt with regularly by turning our heart (mind, will, emotions and conscience) to God daily.  When we do this, the heart can show us the sin we need to repent of.  This cleans our conscience, making it pure so we can fellowship and receive intuition by the anointing inside us.  Therefore pure conscience = pure fellowship = pure intuition guided by the anointing.  If we notice our fellowship with God is broken, God seems distant; we know Him in Name only. We can’t hear from Him or know His will.  This means something is wrong in our conscience; our heart has been hardened.  In this event, we must turn our hearts to God, see where we have missed it, repent, and then  be able to resume fellowship with God, and receive the inward “knowing’  of our intuition through the anointing inside.

Acts 24:16:   And herein do I exercise myself, to have always a conscience void of offence toward God, and toward menKJ

2  Timothy 1: 3:   I thank God, whom I serve from my forefathers with pure conscience, that without ceasing I have remembrance of thee in my prayers night and day;   KJ

1 John 1:5-9:   5 And this is the message we have heard from Him and announce to you: God is light, and in Him there is no darkness at all. *6 If we say we have fellowship with Him yet walk in the darkness, we lie and do not practice the truth. 7 But if we walk in the light as He is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus His Son cleanses us from all sin.  8 If we say we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. *9  If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.    *Pure heart (conscience) = pure fellowship = “knowing” intuition                  Berean

1 John 2: 11:   But the one who hates his brother is in the darkness and walks in the darkness, and does not know where he is going because the darkness has blinded his eyes.
1 John 2: 26, 27:   26 These things I have written to you concerning those who are trying to deceive you. 27 As for you, the anointing which you received from Him abides in you, and you have no need for anyone to teach you; but as His anointing teaches you about all things, and is true and is not a lie, and just as it has taught you, you abide in Him.

The anointing is the intuition, or inward knowing of God that abides in you.  That intuition teaches you what no man can.  It is the “knowing” of what you need to do in any given situation.

In summation:  The heart (conscience + soul) directed toward God will keep your fellowship with God right.  The inward knowing of your intuition will be clear in all matters concerning your personal life that no one but the Spirit can teach you.
