Protecting the Gates – Intro
Gates are the 1st line of defense. They control entrance and exit. Gates can allow a “window” of opportunity or an “open door” for the enemy.
Nehemiah was among the Hebrews who remained in the Persian Empire following the seventy years of Babylonian Captivity and became the king’s cupbearer. Those Hebrews who went back to Jerusalem, found the city in shambles and sent word back to Nehemiah who pleaded with the king for favor to rebuild the city and the king did.
Nehemiah 2:17 Then said Nehemiah unto them, You see the distress that we are in, how Jerusalem lies in ruins, and the gates thereof are burned with fire: come, let us build the wall of Jerusalem, that we are no more a reproach. 3:1,3 Then Eliashib the high priest rose up with his brethren the priests, and they built the sheep gate; they sanctified it, and set up the doors of it; 3 But the fish gate did the sons of Hassenaah build, who also laid the beams thereof, and set up the doors thereof, the locks thereof, and the bars thereof.
1 Corinthians 3:9,16 9 For we are laborers together with God: you are God’s field, you are God’s building. 16 Know you not that you are the temple of God, and that the Spirit of God dwells in you? (NKJ)
How does sickness enter the body? It must come through one of the gates. How do evil thoughts or temptations enter into your mind? It must come through one of the gates. How does the wrong spirit enter into a person? It must come through one of the gates. These gates are known as the eye-gate, ear-gate, mouth-gate, touch-gate, nose-gate. These 5 senses are the guardians of the body and sometimes referred to doors or windows. (The enemy found an open door.) (The eyes are the windows of the soul.)
Nehemiah 4:17 Of them that built on the wall and that carried burdens, and heavy loads: with one of his hands he did the work, and with the other he held a sword. (NKJ)
Hebrews 4:12 For the Word of God is living and active and full of power [making it operative, energizing, and effective]. It is sharper than any two-edged sword, penetrating as far as the division of the soul and spirit [the completeness of a person], and of both joints and marrow [the deepest parts of our nature], exposing and judging the very thoughts and intentions of the heart. (AMP)
Psalm 149:5-9 Let the saints be joyful in glory: let them sing aloud upon their beds. 6 Let the high praises of God be in their mouth, and a two-edged sword in their hand; 7 To execute vengeance upon the nations, and punishments upon the people; 8 To bind their kings with chains, and their nobles with fetters of iron; 9 To execute upon them the judgment written: this honor have all his saints. Praise you the LORD. (NKJ)
The Word of God is our ONLY source for arming our soul for defense. Wrong believing = wrong actions. Thoughts produce actions and that should never be vice versa.
2 Corinthians 10:3-6 For though we walk in the flesh, we do not war according to the flesh: 4 (For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strongholds😉 5 Casting down arguments, and every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ; 6 And having a readiness to punish all disobedience, when your obedience is fulfilled. (NKJ)
The 1st warrior the enemy meets coming through any one of the gates is “will.” The 2nd warrior is “intellect” and the 3rd is “emotion.” These 3 are the guardians of the soul.
1 Thessalonians 5:23 And the very God of peace sanctify you wholly; and I pray God your whole spirit and soul and body be preserved blameless unto the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ. (NKJ)
The natural guardians of our spirit are our conscience, our intuition, and our fellowship. Our spirit is the womb for imagination, memory, reason, and affections. This is the birthplace for faith, hope, reverence, and worship. The job of the Holy Spirit is to bear witness with our spirit what is true. He (the Holy Spirit) is the seed of God which germinates the new life.
John 16:13 But when He, the Spirit of truth, is come, He will guide you into all truth: for he shall not speak of Himself; but whatsoever He shall hear, that shall He speak: and He will show you things to come. (NKJ)
How do I know if something is true of false; right or wrong; of God or the devil or even my own will? By the Word of God!
1 Thessalonians 2:13 For this cause also thank we God without ceasing, because, when you received the Word of God which you heard of us, you received it not as the word of men, but as it is in truth, the Word of God, which effectually works also in you that believe. (NKJ)

That’s quite wise and thoughtful. Would it be ok to counter with a question? It’s just that..I have extra reasons that work with this.
