Strong in Faith

Strength comes from exercise. If you cannot lift 10 lbs., there is no way you can lift 100 lbs. Just like a muscle will atrophy if you don’t use it, so too will your faith.

Hebrews 5:12-14 For though by this time you ought to be teachers, you need someone to teach you again the first principles (basics) of the oracles (Logos = spoken Word) of God; and you have come to need milk and not solid food. 
13 For everyone who partakes only of milk is unskilled  in the Word of righteousness, for he is a babe. 
14 But solid food belongs to those who are of full age, that is, those who by reason of use have their senses exercised to discern both good and evil. (NKJ)

Milk is the Word. Meat or solid food is to do what that Word says.

1 Peter 2:2 …and like newborn babies, long for the pure milk of the Word, so that by it you may grow in respect to salvation, (NKJ)

John 4:31-34 In the meantime His disciples urged Him, saying, “Rabbi, eat.”
32 But He said to them, “I have food to eat of which you do not know.”
33 Therefore the disciples said to one another, “Has anyone brought Him anything to eat?”
34 Jesus said to them, “My food is to do the will of Him who sent Me, and to finish His work.
 
God’s Word is His will.

Matthew 24:35 Heaven and earth will pass away, but My words will by no means pass away. (NKJ)

1 Peter 1:6-9 …in this you greatly rejoice, though now for a little while, if need be, you have been grieved by various trials, 7 that the genuineness of your faith, being much more precious than gold that perishes, though it is tested by fire, may be found to praise, honor, and glory at the revelation of Jesus Christ, 8 whom having not seen you love. Though now you do not see Him, yet believing, you rejoice with joy inexpressible and full of glory, 9 receiving the end of your faith—the salvation of your souls. (NKJ)

Isaiah 55:10-11 For as the rain comes down, and the snow from heaven, and do not return there, but water the earth, and make it bring forth and bud, that it may give seed to the sower and bread to the eater, 11 So shall My word be that goes forth from My mouth; It shall not return to Me void, but it shall accomplish what I please, and it shall prosper in the thing for which I sent it. (NKJ)

Exercising simply means putting into practice what you know is healthy. (eating, walking, movement)

1 Timothy 4:6-9 If you instruct the brethren in these things, you will be a good minister of Jesus Christ, nourished in the words of faith and of the good doctrine which you have carefully followed. 7 But reject profane and old wives’ fables, and exercise yourself toward godliness. 8 For bodily exercise profits a little, but godliness is profitable for all things, having promise of the life that now is and of that which is to come. 9 This is a faithful saying and worthy of all acceptance. (NKJ) (godliness = devout; sincere; committed; showing faithfulness.)

Exercise brings with it the joy of being strong.

Picking up weights and exerting effort is not always fun. We get lazy and don’t want to sweat. It may also require that we work though a little pain.

James 1:2-4 My brethren, count it all joy when you fall into various trials, 3 knowing that the testing of your faith produces patience. 4 But let patience have its perfect work, that you may be perfect and complete, lacking nothing. (NKJ)

What does it mean to have faith? Belief is not simply a mental agreement with some particular truth; its root must lead us to action. Whatever the mind accepts, the will must obey. Therefore, we do not truly believe unless action is taken upon what we say we believe. That means not only do we trust in Jesus, but we obey (act on, put into practice; commit to) His Word. 

2 Corinthians 4:13-18 And since we have the same spirit of faith, according to what is written, “I believed and therefore I spoke,” we also believe and therefore speak, 14 knowing that He who raised up the Lord Jesus will also raise us up with Jesus, and will present us with you. 15 For all things are for your sakes, that grace, having spread through the many, may cause thanksgiving to abound to the glory of God. 16 Therefore we do not lose heart. Even though our outward man is perishing, yet the inward man is being renewed day by day. 17 For our light affliction, which is but for a moment, is working for us a far more exceeding and eternal weight of glory, 18 while we do not look at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen. For the things which are seen are temporary, but the things which are not seen are eternal. (NKJ)

2 Corinthians 5:7 For we walk by faith, not by sight.

Begin exercising your faith in the small things. You will grow stronger.
