The Feast of Trumpets – Rosh Hashanah – Yom Kippur

Also known as Rosh Hashanah, meaning “Head of the Year,” initiates a ten-day period of consecration and repentance before God, marking the beginning of the fall feasts. Mentioned in the Torah, it involves the blowing of trumpets as a call to prepare for the Day of Atonement. In the New Testament, trumpets symbolize significant events like Christ’s return and the resurrection of believers.

Today, the Feast of Trumpets reminds us of the need for repentance and readiness for Christ’s second coming, emphasizing the fulfillment found in Jesus as the ultimate fulfillment of Old Testament prophecies.

Leviticus 23:23-24 Then the Lord spoke to Moses, saying, 24 “Speak to the children of Israel, saying: ‘In the seventh month, on the first day of the month, you shall have a sabbath-rest, a memorial of blowing of trumpets, a holy convocation.” (NKJ)

This “first day of the month” is also referred to as “The day no man knows the day nor the hour” The reason is because it begins only after the confirmation of the New Moon by the spotting of two witnesses.

Matthew 24:3;36 Now as Jesus sat on the Mount of Olives, the disciples came to Him privately, saying, “Tell us, when will these things be? And what will be the sign of Your coming, and of the end of the age?” 36 “But of that day and hour no one knows, not even the angels of heaven, but My Father only. (NKJ)

There will be two witnesses at the end-times.

Revelation 11:3 And I will give power to My two witnesses, and they will prophesy one thousand two hundred and sixty days, clothed in sackcloth. (NKJ)

The blowing of the trumpet (shofar) is a very big part of Jesus’ (The Mesiah’s) return.

1 Corinthians 15:51-52 Behold, I tell you a mystery: We shall not all sleep, but we shall all be changed— 52 in a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trumpet. For the trumpet will sound, and the dead will be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed. (NKJ)

1 Thessalonians 4:13-18 But I do not want you to be ignorant, brethren, concerning those who have fallen asleep (died), lest you sorrow as others who have no hope. 14 For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so God will bring with Him those who sleep in Jesus. 15 For this we say to you by the Word of the Lord, that we who are alive and remain until the coming of the Lord will by no means precede those who are asleep. 16 For the Lord Himself will descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of an archangel, and with the trumpet of God. And the dead in Christ will rise first. 17 Then we who are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. And thus we shall always be with the Lord. 18 Therefore comfort one another with these words. (NKJ)

This year, The Feast of Trumpets began on September 24, 2025 and the following ten days are known as “the Days of Awe.” This is a time of reflection and asking for forgiveness as well as forgiving others. At the end of the ten days, is Yom Kippur, “the Day of Atonement.”

Leviticus 23:26-27 And the Lord spoke to Moses, saying: 27 “Also the tenth day of this seventh month shall be the Day of Atonement. It shall be a holy convocation for you; you shall afflict your souls, and offer an offering made by fire to the Lord. (NKJ) (afflict = humble, to chasten oneself)

On this day, the high priest would purify himself and go into the Holy of Holies, behind the vale to offer a blood  sacrifice upon the Mercy Seat on behalf of himself  & the entire nation.

Hebrews 7:23-26 Also there were many priests, because they were prevented by death from continuing. 24 But Jesus, because He continues forever, has an unchangeable priesthood. 25 Therefore He is also able to save to the uttermost those who come to God through Him, since He always lives to make intercession for them. 26 For such a High Priest was fitting for us, who is holy, harmless, undefiled, separate from sinners, and has become higher than the heavens; 27 who does not need daily, as those high priests, to offer up sacrifices, first for His own sins and then for the people’s, for this He did once for all when He offered up Himself. (NKJ)

Hebrews 10:1-7 For the law, having a shadow of the good things to come, and not the very image of the things, can never with these same sacrifices, which they offer continually year by year, make those who approach perfect. 2 For then would they not have ceased to be offered? For the worshipers, once purified, would have had no more consciousness of sins. 3 But in those sacrifices there is a reminder of sins every year. 4 For it is not possible that the blood of bulls and goats could take away sins.
5 Therefore, when Jesus came into the world, He said:
“Sacrifice and offering You did not desire, but a body You have prepared for Me. 6 In burnt offerings and sacrifices for sin You had no pleasure. 7 Then I said, ‘Behold, I have come—in the volume of the book it is written of Me—to do Your will, O God.’” (NKJ)

Let us hear the call to repentance and prepare our hearts for His return. No one knows the Day nor the Hour of His return.
