The Nature of God
We need to understand God’s nature because He put His nature inside us. That nature simply put “It’s not all about me!” To be known as a child of God carries with it the meaning of being like our Heavenly Father. Acting as He acts, doing what He does. We are put here on this earth to represent Him and not ourselves.
2 Corinthians 5:20-21 Now then we are ambassadors for Christ, as though God did beseech you by us: we pray you in Christ’s stead, be ye reconciled to God. 21 For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him. (NKJ)
An ambassador is an official representative to act on behalf of a foreign kingdom.
Luke 17:20-21 Now when He was asked by the Pharisees when the kingdom of God would come, He answered them and said, “The kingdom of God does not come with observation; 21 nor will they say, ‘See here!’ or ‘See there!’ For indeed, the kingdom of God is within you.” (NKJ)
Let’s look into God’s nature. God did not create mankind so He would have someone to rule over. God is love and created man to have someone to lavish that love upon.
1 John 4:16-19 And we have known and believed the love that God has for us. God is love, and he who abides in love abides in God, and God in him. 17 Love has been perfected among us in this: that we may have boldness in the day of judgment; because as He is, so are we in this world. 18 There is no fear in love; but perfect love casts out fear, because fear involves torment. But he who fears has not been made perfect in love. 19 We love Him because He first loved us. (NKJ)
Although Jesus is the King of kings, He is a Servant-King. His nature is to give.
Matthew 20:28 …just as the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give His life a ransom for many. (NKJ)
John 3:16-17 For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life. 17 For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through Him might be saved. (NKJ)
Galatians 1:3-5 Grace to you and peace from God the Father and our Lord Jesus Christ, 4 who gave Himself for our sins, that He might deliver us from this present evil age, according to the will of our God and Father, 5 to whom be glory forever and ever. Amen. (NKJ)
Ephesians 4:7-8 But to each one of us grace was given according to the measure of Christ’s gift. 8 Therefore He says: “When He ascended on high, He led captivity captive, and gave gifts to men.” (NKJ)
Matthew 16:19 And I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven, and whatever you bind on earth will be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth will be loosed in heaven. (NKJ)
“Gave” was used over 416 times in the New Testament. “Give” was also used 416 times in the New Testament. Because we were created in His image and as He is in this world so are we, it is our nature to want to give. The world says get all you can. Can what you get, then sit on your can. In contrast, God’s nature, His economy, works the opposite way.
Luke 6:38 Give, and it will be given to you: good measure, pressed down, shaken together, and running over will be put into your bosom. For with the same measure that you use, it will be measured back to you. (NKJ)
2 Corinthians 9:6-8 But this I say: He who sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and he who sows bountifully will also reap bountifully. 7 So let each one give as he purposes in his heart, not grudgingly or of necessity; for God loves a cheerful giver. 8 And God is able to make all grace abound toward you, that you, always having all sufficiency in all things, may have an abundance for every good work. (NKJ)
The gifts and talents God gave us were not meant to bless us but others.
1 John 3:16-18 By this we know love (God’s nature*), because He laid down His life for us. And we also ought to lay down our lives for the brethren. 17 But whoever has this world’s goods, and sees his brother in need, and shuts up his heart from him, how does the love of God abide in him? 18 My little children, let us not love in word or in tongue, but in deed and in truth. (NKJ) (* emphasis mine)
John 13:34-35 A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another; as I have loved you, that you also love one another. 35 By this all will know that you are My disciples, if you have love for one another. (NKJ)
Allow His nature – the nature you were created with and for – to flow through you to others.
