Power of Prayer – How to Know God Hears – Part 3

As we continue our study into effective prayer, we have to peel the onions of our souls to find those beliefs, attitudes and thoughts that block our prayers.  In order to get our prayers answered, we must be sure God is hearing us.  How do we know God hears us?  The Word tells us how God hears us.

                                                   Scriptures:

1 John 5: 1-41 Everyone who believes that Jesus is the Christ is born of God, and everyone who loves the Father also loves the one born of Him *(the Father). 2 By this we know that we love the children of God: when we love God and keep His commandments. 3 For this is the love of God, that we keep His commandments. And His commandments are not burdensome, Berean     *emphasis added   keep-tereo-to guard from loss; keep an eye upon; hold fast to; note a prophecy and fulfill it

1 Thessalonians 2:12, 13 12 We encouraged you and comforted you as we urged you to walk in a manner worthy of God, who calls you into His own kingdom and glory.  13 And we continually thank God that in receiving the word of God from us, you did not accept it as the word of men, but as the true word of God—the word now at work in you who believe. Berean

2 Peter 1:16-21:   16 For we did not follow cunningly devised fables when we made known to you the power and coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, but were eyewitnesses of His majesty. 17 For He *(Jesus) received from God the Father honor and glory when such a voice came to Him from the Excellent Glory: “This is My beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.” 18 And we heard this voice which came from heaven when we were with Him on the holy mountain.  19 And so we have the prophetic word confirmed, which you do well to heed as a light that shines in a dark place, until the day dawns and the morning star rises in your hearts; 20 knowing this first, that no prophecy of Scripture is of any private interpretation, 21 for prophecy never came by the will of man, but holy men of God spoke as they were moved by the Holy Spirit.  NKJ

Hebrews 11:6:  And without faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to him must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who earnestly seek him.  NIV

Romans 10: 16, 1716 But they have not all obeyed the gospel. For Isaiah says, “Lord, who has believed our report?” 17 So then faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of GodNKJ

2 Corinthians 1: 20:  For all the promises of God are “Yes” in Christ.  And so through Him, our “Amen” is spoken to the glory of God.  Berean

1 John 5: 14, 15:    14 And this is the confidence that we have before Him: If we ask anything according to His will, He hears us. 15 And if we know that He hears us in whatever we ask, we know that we already possess what we have asked of Him.   Berean

1 John 4: 7, 10, 11:  7 Beloved, let us love one another, because love comes from God. Everyone who loves has been born of God and knows God. 8 Whoever does not love does not know God, because God is love.  10 And love consists in this: not that we loved God, but that He loved us and sent His Son as an atoning sacrifice for our sins11 Beloved, if God so loved us, we also ought to love one another. Berean

Romans 12: 1, 2:  1 Therefore, I urge you, brothers and sisters, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God—this is your true and proper worship. 2 Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will.  NIV

Romans 12: 9-21:   9 Let love be without hypocrisy. Abhor what is evil; cling to what is good. 10 Be devoted to one another in brotherly love; give preference to one another in honor; 11 not lagging behind in diligence, fervent in spirit, serving the Lord; 12 rejoicing in hope, persevering in tribulation, devoted to prayer,  13 contributing to the needs of the saints, practicing hospitality. 14 Bless those who persecute you; bless and do not curse. 15 Rejoice with those who rejoice, and weep with those who weep. 16 Be of the same mind toward one another; do not be haughty in mind, but associate with the lowly. Do not be wise in your own estimation. 17 Never pay back evil for evil to anyone. Respect what is right in the sight of all men. 18 If possible, so far as it depends on you, be at peace with all men. 19 Never take your own revenge, beloved, but leave room for the wrath of God, for it is written, “VENGEANCE IS MINE, I WILL REPAY,” says the Lord. 20 “BUT IF YOUR ENEMY IS HUNGRY, FEED HIM, AND IF HE IS THIRSTY, GIVE HIM A DRINK; FOR IN SO DOING YOU WILL HEAP BURNING COALS ON HIS HEAD.” 21 Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good.   NAS

1 Peter 3: 1,2,7:  1 Wives, in the same way, submit yourselves to your husbands, so that even if they refuse to believe the word, they will be won over without words by the behavior of their wives 2 when they see your pure and reverent demeanor. 7 Husbands, in the same way, treat your wives with consideration as a delicate vessel, and with honor as fellow heirs of the gracious gift of life, so that your prayers will not be hindered.   Berean

1 Peter 3: 8-12 8 Finally, all of you, be like-minded and sympathetic, love as brothers, be tender-hearted and humble. 9 Do not repay evil with evil or insult with insult, but with blessing, because to this you were called so that you may inherit a blessing. 10 For, “Whoever would love life and see good days must keep his tongue from evil and his lips from deceitful speech11 He must turn from evil and do good; he must seek peace and pursue it12 For the eyes of the Lord are on the righteous, and His ears are inclined to their prayer.  But the face of the Lord is against those who do evil.”   Berean
