A lot of people claim they have faith. They say they believe God. They confess His Word is true. They say, “Amen” during the services, but when it comes to actually putting the word into practice, they don’t. Then they wonder why their prayers are not answered when they say they believe God, but don’t act on it. Faith is not what the world thinks it is; it is based on God’s definition, and we are going to look carefully at it. Faith always demands action.
James 1: 2-8: 2 My brethren, count it all joy when you fall into various trials, 3 knowing that the testing of your faith produces [endurance, perseverance] patience. 4 But let patience have its perfect work, that you may be [mature] perfect and complete, lacking nothing. 5 If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach, and it will be given to him. 6 But let him ask in faith, with no doubting, for he who doubts is like a wave of the sea driven and tossed by the wind. 7 For let not that man suppose that he will receive anything from the Lord; 8 he is a double-minded man, unstable in all his ways. James 1: 22-25: 22 But be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves. 23 For if anyone is a hearer of the word and not a doer, he is like a man who looks intently at his natural face in a mirror. 24 For he looks at himself and goes away and at once forgets what he was like. 25 But the one who looks into the perfect law, the law of liberty, and perseveres, being no hearer who forgets but a doer who acts, he will be blessed in his doing. James 2: 14-17: 14 What good is it, my brothers, if someone says he has faith but does not have works? Can that faith save him? 15 If a brother or sister is poorly clothed and lacking in daily food, 16 and one of you says to them, “Go in peace, be warmed and filled,” without giving them the things needed for the body, what good is that? 17 So also faith by itself, if it does not have works, is dead.
