Freedom

Freedom comes from God! Do you want to be set free from guilt, anger, bitterness, unforgiveness, poverty, lack, sickness. Read on.

What does it really mean to be free? Free from the guilt of the past. Free from anger, bitterness, and unforgiveness. Free from sickness, poverty, and lack. Free from habitual sins, the curse of the law, and the clutches of the enemy.

John 8:31-36 Then Jesus said to those Jews who believed Him, “If you abide in My word, you are My disciples indeed. 32 And you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.” (Exempt; no restrictions)

33 They answered Him, “We are Abraham’s descendants, and have never been in bondage to anyone. How can You say, ‘You will be made free’?”

34 Jesus answered them, “Most assuredly, I say to you, whoever commits sin is a slave of sin35 And a slave does not abide in the house foreverbut a son abides forever36 Therefore if the Son makes you free, you shall be free indeed. (liberated, unbound, unshackled)

We are forgiven of sin which does not make us free to sin but free from sin. Before Jesus’ death, burial, and resurrection, we could not keep from sinning. Now, we have a choice. We are no longer bound to sin.

Romans 8:1-11 There is therefore now no condemnation to those who are in Christ Jesus, who do not walk according to the flesh, but according to the Spirit2 For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus has made me free from the law of sin and death3 For what the law could not do in that it was weak through the flesh, God did by sending His own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh, on account of sin: He condemned sin in the flesh4 that the righteous requirement of the law might be fulfilled in us who do not walk according to the flesh but according to the Spirit5 For those who live according to the flesh set their minds on the things of the flesh, but those who live according to the Spirit, (set their minds on) the things of the Spirit. 6 For to be carnally minded is death, but to be spiritually minded is life and peace7 Because the carnal mind  is enmity against God; for it is not subject to the law of God, nor indeed can be8 So then, those who are in the flesh cannot please God.

9 But you are not in the flesh but in the Spirit, if indeed the Spirit of God dwells in you. Now if anyone does not have the Spirit of Christ, he is not His. 10 And if Christ is in you, the body is dead because of sin, but the Spirit is life because of righteousness11 But if the Spirit of Him who raised Jesus from the dead dwells in you, He who raised Christ from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies through His Spirit who dwells in you.

What do you keep your mind on? What holds your attention? The power of choice has been set before you.

Deuteronomy 30:19 I call heaven and earth as witnesses today against you, that I have set before you life and death, blessing and cursing; therefore choose life, that both you and your descendants may live;

With freedom comes responsibility.

Galatians 5:1;13-15 Stand fast therefore in the liberty by which Christ has made us free, and do not be entangled again with a yoke of bondage. 13 For you, brethren, have been called to liberty; only do not use liberty as an opportunity for the flesh, but through love serve one another14 For all the law is fulfilled in one wordeven in this: “You shall love your neighbor as yourself.” 15 But if you bite and devour one another, beware lest you be consumed by one another!

You have been set free but are you still bound by your past?

Do the sins and guilt of the past have you making wrong decisions because of your focus on that past?

John 11:38-44 Then Jesus, again groaning in Himself, came to the tomb. It was a cave, and a stone lay against it. 39 Jesus said, “Take away the stone.”

Martha, the sister of him who was dead, said to Him, “Lord, by this time there is a stench, for he has been dead four days.”

40 Jesus said to her, “Did I not say to you that if you would believe you would see the glory of God?” 41 Then they took away the stone from the place where the dead man was lying. And Jesus lifted up His eyes and said, “Father, I thank You that You have heard Me42 And I know that You always hear Me, but because of the people who are standing by I said this, that they may believe that You sent Me.” 43 Now when He had said these things, He cried with a loud voice, “Lazarus, come forth!” 44 And he who had died came out bound hand and foot with graveclothes, and his face was wrapped with a cloth. Jesus said to them, “Loose him, and let him go.”

It’s time to take off the graveclothes of the past. Stop allowing things that happened years ago to dictate how you respond today. You are free; no longer bound in the failures of yesterday. Live everyday as though you don’t have a care in this world.

1 Peter 5:6-7 Therefore humble yourselves under the mighty hand of God, that He may exalt you in due time, 7 casting all your care upon Him, for He cares for you.

Amp Version 7 casting all your cares [all your anxieties, all your worries, and all your concerns, once and for all] on Him, for He cares about you [with deepest affection, and watches over you very carefully].
