Confession
Many different ideas come to mind when we hear the word ‘confession.’ It may come to your mind revealing to someone everything that you have done wrong. Or, maybe sitting in front of a judge and jury and admitting a law you are guilty of breaking? Biblical confession goes beyond that.
Hebrews 3:1 Therefore, holy brethren, partakers of the heavenly calling, consider the Apostle and High Priest of our confession, Christ Jesus,
Who is your favorite Apostle? What is an apostle? A super-saint, or a special anointed position? Apostle means ‘sent one.’ Jesus was certainly that.
John 3:16-17 For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life. 17 For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through Him might be saved.
John 5:36 Jesus said, “But I have a greater witness than John’s; for the works which the Father has given Me to finish—the very works that I do—bear witness of Me, that the Father has sent Me.”
John 6:38 Jesus also said, “For I have come down from heaven, not to do My own will, but the will of Him who sent Me.”
There is no doubt Jesus was sent here on earth. But what was He sent here to do? To be our High Priest. Most of us don’t have any idea what a High Priest does. We picture in our mind some guy wearing strange garments and doing some type of religious rites or rituals.
Hebrews 8:1-3 Now this is the main point of the things we are saying: We have such a High Priest, who is seated at the right hand of the throne of the Majesty in the heavens, 2 a Minister of the sanctuary and of the true tabernacle which the Lord erected, and not man. 3 For every high priest is appointed to offer both gifts and sacrifices. Therefore, it is necessary that this One also have something to offer.
His gifts and sacrifices were His own body offered up for you and me. This was not simply an event that happened in the past. He is still working on our behalf fulfilling His Priestly role of administering, executing, implementing, and carrying into effect the favor of God.
Hebrews 4:14-16 Seeing then that we have a great High Priest who has passed through the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold fast our confession. 15 For we do not have a High Priest who cannot sympathize with our weaknesses, but was in all points tempted as we are, yet without sin. 16 Let us therefore come boldly to the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy and find grace to help in time of need.
Hebrews 3:1 Therefore, holy brethren, partakers of the heavenly calling, consider the Apostle and High Priest of our confession, Christ Jesus,
In the Greek, confession means: a conclusion embraced by common confession, profession, or affirmation; to say the same thing about; an agreement.
2 Corinthians 9:13 Because of the proof this ministry provides, the saints will glorify God for your obedient confession of the gospel of Christ, and for the generosity of your contribution to them and to all the others.
So, by definition, Jesus is to administer, to execute, to implement, or to carry into effect what we say. Chances are, you’ve been speaking your feeling rather that the Word of God.
How is Jesus going to administer sickness, weakness, poverty, or defeat?
How can we apply this to everyday life? Let’s say you are feeling weak and tired. Instead of professing, confessing, affirming, and agreeing with how you feel, speak God’s Word instead.
Joel 3:10b Let the weak say, ‘I am strong.’
When you say ‘I am strong’ Jesus releases His power to you.
Ephesians 6:10 Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord and in the power of His might.
1 Peter 4:11 If anyone speaks, he should speak as one conveying the words of God. If anyone serves, he should serve with the strength God provides, so that in all things God may be glorified through Jesus Christ, to whom be the glory and the power forever and ever. Amen.
Ephesians 1:19-23 Know “what is the exceeding greatness of His power toward us who believe, according to the working of His mighty power 20 which He worked in Christ when He raised Him from the dead and seated Him at His right hand in the heavenly places, 21 far above all principality and power and might and dominion, and every name that is named, not only in this age but also in that which is to come. 22 And He put all things under His feet, and gave Him to be head over all things to the church, 23 which is His body, the fullness of Him who fills all in all.”
You have been given everything you need to live a victorious life. Allow your High Priest access into your life by confessing His Word instead of your feelings.
Philippians 4:19 And my God shall supply all your need according to His riches in glory by Christ Jesus.
