The Relationship Between our Flesh and Unbelief

The voice of unbelief tells you the opposite of the truth. It makes you assume the worst. It brings with it fear, depression, and unrest. So, anytime you are afraid, feel depressed or stressed, realize there is something you are in unbelief about. Your focus (what you are thinking, considering, or dwelling on) is the wrong thing. The voice of unbelief is your carnal nature.

Genesis 3:7 And the eyes of them both were opened, and they knew that they were naked; and they sewed fig leaves together, and made themselves aprons. (NKJ)

2 Corinthians 4:4 In whom the god of this world has blinded the minds of them which believe not, lest the light of the glorious gospel of Christ, who is the image of God, should shine to them. (NKJ)

Romans 4:18-21 Let us consider Abraham who, contrary to hope, in hope believed, so that he became the father of many nations, according to what was spoken, “so shall your descendants be.” 19 And being not weak in faith, he considered not his own body as now dead, when he was about a hundred years old, neither yet the deadness of Sarah’s womb: 20 He (?) staggered not at the promise of God throughunbelief; but was strong in faith, giving glory to God;  21 And being fully persuaded that, what God had promised, God was able also to perform. (NKJ)

Why was it unbelief to consider his own body? Because it was contrary to what God said, “So shall your descendants be.” It does not matter what the circumstances are, or what your symptoms are, or what the diagnosis is, nor the report given… to consider them over the Word is unbelief.

Staggering or wavering is cognitive dissidence. The mental stress or discomfort experienced by an individual who holds two or more contradictory beliefs, ideas, or values at the same time, or is confronted by new information that conflicts with existing beliefs, ideas, or values.

1 Peter 2:24 Who His own self bore our sins in His own body on the tree, that we, being dead to sins, should live unto righteousness: by whose stripes ye were healed. (NKJ)

It is not enough to have the information. You must see yourself as God sees you; well – healed. Look with your mind, not with your eyes. Meditate. Imagine. Not just mental assent. If you are more in touch with your flesh than your spirit, your flesh will dictate what you believe.

Romans 8:4-8 That the righteousness of the law might be fulfilled in us, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit. 5 For they that are after the flesh do mind the things of the flesh; but they that are after the Spirit the things of the Spirit. 6 For to be carnally minded is death; but to be spiritually minded is life and peace. 7 Because the carnal mind is enmity against God: for it is not subject to the law of God, neither indeed can be. 8 So then they that are in the flesh cannot please God.

Carnal or flesh is the Greek word “sarx” meaning external, human nature, body. It is referring to making decisions (actions) according to self. Walking according to reasoning dictated by what your five senses are telling you (see, hear, touch, smell, feel). Your senses are not reliable guides, because they are often contradicting what the Word of God says. So, if you are not living in life and peace, you are being carnally minded.

Hebrews 4:2 For unto us was the gospel preached, as well as unto them: but the word preached did not profit them, not being mixed with faith in them that heard it.

Faith is not the absence of unbelief! It is the replacement of worldly thinking. Believing is not something you do once; it is a life-style. It is not saying something or quoting Scripture like it’s a magic word “Abracadabra” then “poof” it happens. What we say must line up with what we believe.

You may say, “If it is already done, why don’t I have it?” Because you are limiting your receiving based upon your 5 senses. We have been taught to trust our senses more than we trust Scripture. That means we will have to unlearn some wrong believing we have been taught. When someone says, “Well, that’s your interpretation of what Scripture says!” it simply means their own doubt has kept them from receiving.

Mark 4:20 And these are they which are sown on good ground; such as hear the word, and receive it, and bring forth fruit, some thirty times, some sixty, and some a hundred. (NKJ)

Receive = lambanousin – meaning “actively lay hold of; to take or receive,” properly, to lay hold by aggressively or actively accepting what is available or offered, accept with initiative. This emphasizes the volition or assertiveness of the receiver. To take as one’s own (own it), to admit or receive into the mind, to gain back.

How do you tell when you are saved? You can’t see your salvation. You can’t feel it in your physical body. You don’t look like you’re saved. How do you know you are saved? You accept it by faith. It is the same with healing. You cannot be half or mostly saved. Just like a woman cannot be partly pregnant. Either she is or she is not. It’s the same thing with healing. Even though it may not be showing, you are expecting what is on the inside to manifest its self on the outside.
