Fulfill Your Prescription

What is a prescription? According to Webster, “a written direction for a therapeutic or corrective agent; specificallyone for the preparation and use of a medicine.” It also means, “The action of laying down authoritative rules or directions.” It is also defined as, “the process of making claim to something by long use and enjoyment.”

The first reason people are not healed is they don’t take time to plant God’s Word deep down in their hearts.

Proverbs 4:20-22 My son, pay attention to my words; incline your ear to my sayings. 21 Do not lose sight of them; keep them within your heart. 22 For they are life to those who find them, and health to the whole body. (Berean)

Luke 8:11b-15 The seed is the Word of God. The seeds on the road are those who hear the Word, but no sooner do they hear it than the Devil snatches it from them so they won’t believe and be saved. 13 The seeds in the gravel are those who hear with enthusiasm, but the enthusiasm doesn’t go very deep. It’s only another fad, and the moment there’s trouble it’s gone. 14 And the seed that fell in the weeds—well, these are the ones who hear, but then the seed is crowded out and nothing comes of it as they go about their lives worrying about tomorrow, making money, and having fun. 15 But the seed in the good earth—these are the good-hearts who seize the Word and hold on no matter what, sticking with it until there’s a harvest. Psalm 107:19-21 Then they cried out to the Lord in their trouble, and He saved them out of their distresses. 20 He sent His word and healed them, and delivered them from their destructions. 21 Oh, that men would give thanks to the Lord for His goodness, and for His wonderful works to the children of men! The second reason people are not healed is they don’t do what the Word tells them to do.

We understand when a doctor writes a prescription, we must follow those instructions in order for the medicine to work as it should. If the prescription says, “Take orally twice daily,” you wouldn’t rub it on the bottom of your foot and expect the same results. Yet, many of us have this same approach to the Word of God and then wonder why it didn’t work?

If we use the Gospel (God’s pill) the way He prescribed it, it will work every time.

James 5:14-16 Is any one of you sick? He should call the elders of the church to pray over him and anoint him with oil in the name of the Lord15 And the prayer offered in faith will restore the one who is sick. The Lord will raise him up. If he has sinned, he will be forgiven. 16 Therefore confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous man has great power to prevail. (Berean) Elders in Greek = experienced.

Mark 9:21-24 So He asked his father, “How long has this been happening to him?” And he said, “From childhood. 22 And often he has thrown him both into the fire and into the water to destroy him. But if You can do anything, have compassion on us and help us.” 23 Jesus said to him, “If you can believe, all things are possible to him who believes.” 24 Immediately the father of the child cried out and said with tears, “Lord, I believe; help my unbelief!” (NKJ)

Mark 11:20-25 As they were walking back in the morning, they saw the fig tree withered from its roots.  21 Peter remembered it and said, “Look, Rabbi! The fig tree You cursed has withered.” 22Have faith in God,” Jesus said to them. 23 “Truly I tell you that if anyone says to this mountain, ‘Be lifted up and thrown into the sea,’ and has no doubt in his heart but believes that it will happen, it will be done for him24 Therefore I tell you, whatever you ask for in prayer, believe that you have received it, and it will be yours. 25 And when you stand to pray, if you hold anything against another, forgive it, so that your Father in heaven will forgive your trespasses as well. (Berean)

Psalm 103:20-22 Bless the Lord, you His angels, who excel in strength, who do His word, heeding the voice of His word. 21 Bless the Lord, all you His hosts, you ministers of His, who do His pleasure. 22 Bless the Lord, all His works, In all places of His dominion. Bless the Lord, O my soul! (NKJ) Heeding in Hebrew = to hear.

Isaiah 55:10-11 For just as rain and snow fall from heaven and do not return without watering the earth, making it bud and sprout, and providing seed to sow and food to eat, 11 so My word that proceeds from My mouth will not return to Me empty, but it will accomplish what I please, and it will prosper where I send it. (Berean)

If you don’t want your words to return to you void and without effect, speak His Word and believe.

1 John 5:14-15 And this is the confidence that we have before Him: If we ask anything according to His will, He hears us. 15 And if we know that He hears us in whatever we ask, we know that we already possess what we have asked of Him. (Berean)
