Your Body is the Temple – Part 1

Today we are starting a new series looking at the correlation between the Temple of God and our human body.  Our goal in this series is to become aware of our human make up, and how we are to communicate with God.  When we understand the significance between the Temple God built through Moses, and the temple of our human being; we will learn how to communicate directly with our own spirit and how to be led by the Holy Spirit who resides in our spirit.

Scriptures:

1 Corinthians 3:16:   Do you not know that you are a temple of God and that the Spirit of God dwells in you?   NAS

Matthew 27: 50,51a:   50 When Jesus had cried out again in a loud voice, He yielded up His spirit. 51 At that moment the veil of the temple was torn in two from top to bottom.  Berean

John 1:29:   The next day John saw Jesus coming toward him and said, “Look, the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world!   NIV

Exodus 25: 8, 22, 40:   8 “And let them make Me a sanctuary, that I may dwell among them. 22 “And there I will meet with you, and I will speak with you from above the mercy seat, from between the two cherubim which are on the ark of the Testimony about everything which I will give you in commandment to the children of Israel.”  40 “And see to it that you make them according to the pattern which was shown you on the mountain.NKJ

1 Thessalonians 5:23:   Now may the God of peace himself sanctify you completely, and may your whole spirit and soul and body be kept blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.   ESV

John 3:6:  That which is born of the flesh is flesh, and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit.   ESV

Romans 8: 16:   The Spirit Himself testifies with our spirit that we are children of God,   NAS

John 4:24:   “God is spirit, and those who worship Him must worship in spirit and truth.”   NAS

Romans 8: 9-14:     9  However, you are not in the flesh but in the Spirit, if indeed the Spirit of God dwells in you. But if anyone does not have the Spirit of Christ, he does not belong to Him. 10 If Christ is in you, though the body is dead because of sin, yet the spirit is alive because of righteousness. 11 But if the Spirit of Him who raised Jesus from the dead dwells in you, He who raised Christ Jesus from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies through His Spirit who dwells in you12 So then, brethren, we are under obligation, not to the flesh, to live according to the flesh— 13 for if you are living according to the flesh, you must die; but if by the Spirit you are putting to death the deeds of the body, you will live. 14 For all who are being led by the Spirit of God, these are sons of God.   NAS

Romans 1:9:   For God, whom I serve in my spirit in the preaching of the gospel of His Son, is my witness as to how unceasingly I make mention of you,   NAS

1 Corinthians 6:17:   But he that is joined unto the Lord is one spiritKJ

1 Corinthians 6: 17:   But the one who joins himself to the Lord is one spirit with Him.   NAS

Galatians 5:16:   This I say then, Walk in the Spirit, and ye shall not fulfil the lust of the flesh.   KJ

Walking in the Spirit means listening to our human spirit who communes with the Holy Spirit who resides in our human spirit.  Walking in the Spirit bypasses the intellectual soul realm, and ‘tunes in’ to our spirit.  Our human spirit has been born from above by God.   Therefore, it is trustworthy and reliable for us to follow.  It was regenerated when God’s Holy Spirit made abode inside our human spirit making us new creations.  Our flesh is dead; meaning not actively involved with the spiritual realm for direction and guidance, but crucified daily.  Our soul realm constitutes three aspects: 1) mind -> intellect, 2) will ->  choices and 3) emotions -> feelings.

Ephesians 4:1-6:   1 Therefore I, the prisoner of the Lord, implore you to walk in a manner worthy of the calling with which you have been called, 2 with all humility and gentleness, with patience, showing tolerance for one another in love, 3 being diligent to preserve the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace. 4 There is one body and one Spirit, just as also you were called in one hope of your calling; 5 one Lord, one faith, one baptism, 6 one God and Father of all who is over all and through all and in all.    NAS

1 Corinthians 9: 25-27:   25 Everyone who competes in the games goes into strict training. They do it to get a crown that will not last, but we do it to get a crown that will last forever. 26 Therefore I do not run like someone running aimlessly; I do not fight like a boxer beating the air. 27 No, I strike a blow to my body and make it my slave so that after I have preached to others, I myself will not be disqualified for the prize.   NIV

1 Corinthians 9: 27But I keep under my body, and bring it into subjection  KJ

2 Corinthians 13:5:   Test yourselves to see if you are in the faith; examine yourselves! Or do you not recognize this about yourselves, that Jesus Christ is in you— unless indeed you fail the test?   NAS

Romans 8:11:   But if the Spirit of Him who raised Jesus from the dead dwells in you, He who raised Christ Jesus from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies through His Spirit who dwells in you.   NAS
