Protecting the Gates – The Touch Gate – Part 6

Gates are the 1st of defense. They control entrance and exit. Gates can allow a “window” of opportunity or an “open door” for the enemy.

Nehemiah 2:17 Then said Nehemiah unto them, You see the distress that we are in, how Jerusalem lies in ruins, and the gates thereof are burned with fire: come, let us build the wall of Jerusalem, that we are no more a reproach. (NKJ)

How does sickness, evil thoughts or temptations, or the wrong spirit enter into a person? It must come through one of the gates. These gates are known as the eye-gate, ear-gate, mouth-gate, touch-gate, nose-gate. These 5 senses are the guardians of the body.

Hebrews 4:12 For the Word of God is living and active and full of power [making it operative, energizing, and effective]. It is sharper than any two-edged sword, penetrating as far as the division of the soul and spirit [the completeness of a person], and of both joints and marrow [the deepest parts of our nature], exposing and judging the very thoughts and intentions of the heart. (AMP)

The Word of God is the ONLY source designed to strengthen our soul (mind, will, and emotions) for defense. Wrong believing = wrong actions. Listening to the wrong voice will produce unbelief.

God created us with a sense of touch and feeling. If we didn’t have this sense, how would we know when something is wrong? How would we know we are getting to close to a fire or being burned and damaging our skin?

The sense of touch and feelings were given to us by our creator as a warning sign. However, we are not to be ruled by these senses. Like our other senses, they can be incorrect or deceived and lead us astray. (Example: fear of heights or flying; phantom itches)

Isaiah 53:6 All we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned everyone to his own way; and the LORD has laid on Him (Jesus) the iniquity of us all. (NKJ)

Isaiah 53:5 But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed. (NKJ)

Just because we feel a symptom in our body does not mean there is a problem.

Isaiah 26:3 You will keep him in perfect peace,
whose mind is stayed on You, because he trusts in You. (NKJ) shalom: completeness, soundness, welfare, peace

Lead by Our Emotions

Galatians 5:16 This I say then, Walk in the Spirit, and you shall not fulfill the lust of the flesh. (NKJ) Lust – properly, passion built on strong feelings (urges).

Webster’s Definition of Emotion

(n.) A moving of the mind or soul; excitement of the feelings, whether pleasing or painful; disturbance or agitation of mind caused by a specific exciting cause and manifested by something perceptible to the senses effecting the body.

The evil side of our feelings

Galatians 5:19-21 The acts of the flesh are obvious: sexual immorality, impurity, and debauchery; 20 idolatry and sorcery; hatred, discord, jealousy, and rage; rivalries, divisions, factions, 21 and envy; drunkenness, carousing, and the like. I warn you, as I did before, that those who practice such things will not inherit the kingdom of God. (Berean Study Bible)

The good side of our feelings

Galatians 5:22-25 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, 23 Meekness, self-control: against such there is no law. 24 And they that are Christ’s have crucified the flesh with the affections and lusts. 25 If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit. (NKJ)

Our emotions are God-given and created for our pleasure. The only way we can enjoy them is by allowing the Word of God to rule over our emotions instead of them ruling over us.
